Fundraiser for Afghan Prosecutors and Judges

Summary

A recent fundraiser in Baton Rouge aimed to support Afghan prosecutors and judges who aided the United States during the war in Afghanistan. Organized by the group Prosecutors for Prosecutors, the event raised over $300,000 to help relocate these individuals, many of whom face threats to their lives after the U.S. withdrawal in 2021.

The event, held on September 26, 2024, featured District Attorney Hillar Moore and Marine Corps veteran Chad Robichaux, author of “Saving Aziz,” who shared personal stories of evacuation efforts. With thousands of former Afghan justice workers still in hiding, the fundraiser highlighted the urgent need for financial support, as it costs approximately $10,000 per family to facilitate their relocation to the U.S. Despite the significant funds raised, only 19 families have been assisted so far, underscoring the scale of the challenge ahead. Attendees included former Afghan nationals and representatives from various organizations, all united in their commitment to ensure that those who supported the U.S. are not left behind.
